Visitation Information: Obituary: James R. Friend, (U.S. Army Retired), passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009, at the age of 79. After the death of his beloved wife, Bernice Friend in November 2007, Jim was cared for by wonderful people at the Hampton Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Before he retired, he was a barber and owned the Westside Barbar Shop. To all who knew Jim, he was first and foremost: a soldier in the United States Army; he was also a loving huband; a step-father; a father-in-law; and a grandpa. He enjoyed traveling with Bee and for many years they were members of the RV set. Jim is survived by his children, Tina Friend, Kathy Permenter, Tom Ardell and six grandchildren.
