BETTY ANN ANDERSON

Betty A. Anderson, 81, of Lacey, died Monday, May 9, 2005. Betty was born in Kansas City, Missouri July 5, 1923 to Walter F. and Ramona J. (Will) Tucker. In 1936, her parents decided to take her to California. She graduated from high school in 1940. She and her parents moved to Santa Rosa, Calif. where she worked in a local store. She also enrolled at a Jr. College at that time.

Now comes WWII, and Betty’s future husband, Russell, arrived with the U.S. Army. He was a SGT at that time. He proposed to Betty on Feb. 14, 1942. They were married April 12, 1942 in Santa Rosa. During the war years, Betty stayed home. In 1947 Russell was stationed in Panama, Betty joined him there. After various assignments, they were eventually sent to Japan, where Betty was the perfect Officer’s wife, raising her family and entertaining dignitaries and troops, often at a moments notice.

Back to California in 1954, Betty returned to college and received her Bachelor’s degree from Redlands University. Her education and experience landed a job as a county welfare worker in Ventura, California. Climbing through the ranks, she became a much loved and respected Superintendent in the California State welfare system. She retired in 1982. She was an officer in the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Presbyterian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She and Russell moved to Lacey in 1993 where they were members of the Lacey Presbyterian Church.

Survivors in addition to her husband include one son, Timothy R. Anderson, Florida; two daughters, Kathy Kidwell, Vancouver, Washington and Marilie Beuhler of California; also two grandchildren, Ramona Buehler and Alexandra Buehler.
