Robert "Bob" Collins

Robert L. Collins (Bob), DVM retired, passed away on May 3, 2010, at the age of 81. He was born November 20, 1928, to Wilbur and Ruth Collins on their farm near Sharon Springs, Kansas.

He joined the army after high school and was stationed in Germany where he met Inge Ertl, his wife to be. They married in 1952 and returned to western Kansas to farm. The drought of the early 1950’s took its toll on farming so he took a job with the Kansas State Experimental farm in Colby, KS.

Later, in 1960, he enrolled at Kansas State University where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary medicine. After graduation he moved his family to Washington State to join the Veterinary practice at the Deschutes Animal Clinic in Tumwater where he remained until his retirement.

Bob was a kind and easy going man who loved his family and his job. Bob had great respect for his partners at the clinic, and took great pride in the care they all provided to the many animals that came their way. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Inge, son Stephen Collins of Phoenix, daughter Christine (Tony) Tribe of Olympia, granddaughters Erica (Brian) Hansen, April Wollen, Addie Tribe, Julie Tribe, 2 great-grandsons, Gunnar Hansen and Giovanni Frank and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at his home on August 8, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
