Obituary:

James Philip Anderson passed away from a massive stroke Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Peter Hospital. Jim was born January 4, 1939 in Olympia, Washington to Enoch and Gertrude (Merring) Anderson.

Jim spent his early years in the Navy and then followed a career in the Merchant Marines. Upon his retirement, he indulged in one of his favorite activities of playing the horses. He loved to read history and could answer any trivia question about World War II. History in any form, particularly about the history of Olympia, was his main love. You could also find Jim with his friends at the China Clipper.

Jim remained Scandinavian stoic in the face of declining health with bone cancer. No matter how bad he felt, it was always “so-so”. The memory of Jim will always be cherished by those who knew him.

Jim is survived by his sister, Janet Anderson of Tumwater; nephews, David (Carey) McKie of Lacey, Eric (Kathy) Hurt of Lacey, and Jeff Hurt of Spokane; and a niece Jennifer (Robert) Gehrke of Rainier.
