"Tony"

Tony Kroon 82 passed away February 5, 2012 peacefully at home with His family by His side. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 60 years, 2 children Marianne and Cor Hassfeld of the Netherlands, Dick and Anna Kroon of Tacoma, 5 grandchildren, Darcie, Tony of the Netherlands, Pam, Kimmie and Casey all of Washington and 7 Great Grandchildren and his sister Jetti Barendse of the Netherlands.

Tony is preceded in death by his older brother Gerardus Kroon of the Netherlands and a younger sister Ann Van Duijn from Australia.

Tony was born in The Hague, Netherland July 7, 1929 to Gerardus Johannes Arnoldus Jacobus and Geertrudia(Sjoke) Kroon.

In 1957 at the age 28 He, Mary and their 2 children came to America sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Olympia. First task- Learn English and work! In 1963 two events changed Tony’s life; He became a U.S. Citizen and also joined the Independent Order of Foresters

His community involvement as precinct committeeman, Cub Scout ,Pack 31/Boy Scout Master,Troop 231, Youth/Lay Church Leader, PTA President Madison School, Golden Acorn Recipient, Little League Baseball – City Champion 1965 American League-Madison Elementary.

Tony also served 20 years as a High Court Officer in the I.O.F.(Independent Order of Foresters). This allowed Tony and his family to travel and meet wonderful Lifelong friends.

Tony brought his Soccer skills and joined the Holland/American Club in Seattle, within 6 months of arriving in the U.S. 1962 Tony founded The Thurston County Soccer Club which brought much joy to see soccer grow in the local area as well in the U.S.A. For 30 years Tony worked for the Olympia School District, 20 years at John Rodger Elementary as Head Custodian and 10 years as Carpenter. Dick Hunter, former Superintendent said that “Tony had just as much to do with the children’s education as any one individual.

Tony had many different hobbies, Interests and talents. He and Mary shared and showed their Love while singing Praises and Dancing through Life Together!

Tony says:”Be of Good Cheer!

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church 1224 Legion Way SE, Olympia, WA. Family suggests memorials may be made to the “Helping Hurts Fund” in c/o the church.
