Visitation Information: Obituary: Charles M. Backman, 79, of Olympia, died of cancer on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. He was born May 5, 1927 to Merton Douglas and Elosia Mae (Lanphear) Backman in Carrols, Washington. He served in the United States Navy from September 1944 to June 1946. He was a truck driver and proud of it. Prior to living in Olympia, Charles was a long time resident of Willits, California and the Bay Area. He enjoyed playing Pinochle and being with people, traveling and was a very active volunteer with the Willits Senior Center. Charles was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge 1109 Legion #17, and the Masonic Lodge Olympia #1. He is survived by 2 daughters, Elosia McGinnis, of Paradise, California and Charlene Mason, of Willits, California; 4 sisters, Wanda Stehman, of Woodland, Washington, Donna Blaine (Clarence), of Kelso, Washington, Florence Winbeckler, of Olympia, Washington, and Dorothy Kocker (John), of Vancouver, Washington; 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Walter Backman and his brother, Elbert Backman. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 3443 Lilly Rd. N.E., Olympia, Washington. View Guestbook Keepsake Page |
